Lesley Hyatt has been teaching for over 30 years. Currently, she teaches writing and mindfulness to students of all ages, including K-12, university, adult learners and incarcerated juveniles. Lesley holds an M.F.A. (English and Fiction Writing), and several California State Teaching Credentials (Clear; Bilingual CLAD; Secondary English.) She received a certificate as Outstanding Instructor for her work as a creative writing teacher at UMass, Amherst, and she is a former Fulbright Scholar.
Lesley has been practicing and studying mindfulness meditation intensively for over 20 years, under the guidance of many renowned teachers such as S.N. Goenka; Phillip Moffit; James Baraz and Sharon Salzberg. She has been mentored in her work as a mindfulness teacher by Martin Aylward and Mark Coleman (Mindfulness Training Institute), and James Baraz, co-founder of Spirit Rock Meditation Center and creator of Awakening Joy.
The WriteMind Project, Lesley’s signature course for middle and high school students, allows young people an innovative opportunity to develop both writing and mindfulness skills. TWMP is available as an enrichment course at Los Angeles-area schools and as private group and individual workshops.
Lesley lives with her 2 sons and relentlessly friendly mutt in Studio City, CA.
